When showdown happens

If the final betting round ends with multiple players still in the hand, they proceed to showdown. If every opponent folds before then, the last remaining player wins without needing to expose a hand in ordinary circumstances.

Who shows first?

Cash-game and tournament procedures can differ. A common rule uses the last aggressor on the final betting round, or action order when the river checks through, but the governing house or tournament rules control.

Cards speak

Players may verbally misidentify their hand. In properly run games, the exposed cards themselves determine the hand when the hand has been tabled according to the rules. Dealers and players can help identify the correct five-card combination.

Using zero, one or two hole cards

Unlike Omaha, Texas Hold’em does not require exactly two hole cards. If the board makes your best hand, you play the board. If one hole card improves it, use one. If both improve it, use both.

Mucking

To muck is to discard without exposing a hand. Procedures can vary, especially when another player requests to see a called hand under specific rules. Do not assume a local rule based on another card room.
