Call — Poker Definition

Quick answer

Call: match the amount required by the current bet or raise in order to remain in the hand.

Example

An opponent bets 600 and you have contributed nothing on that street. Calling generally requires 600. If you cannot cover the full amount, you may call all-in for your remaining chips, subject to the game rules.

Why it matters

Calls should be evaluated using range strength, pot odds, future action and stack depth rather than curiosity or money already invested.
