All-in: wager all of the chips you currently have available in the hand.
Effective stack
If you have 5,000 chips and an opponent has 12,000, only 5,000 from that opponent can be matched directly against you. The effective stack between you is 5,000.
Side pots
When several players continue for different all-in amounts, a main pot and one or more side pots can be created. Each player can win only the pots for which that player is eligible.
Why it matters
All-ins are common at shallow tournament stack depths because smaller raises can commit a large share of the stack. They also create the situations in which players can double up.
